Melvin Naoya Kaneshiro, 71, of Hilo died Dec. 23, 2012, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 25, 1941, in Kukuihaele, he was a certified public accountant and proprietor of Melvin N. Kaneshiro, CPA and member of Hui Okinawa, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Association of Public Accountants and East Hawaii Kiwanis Club.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Kazuko Kaneshiro of Hilo; son, Neil (Isabella) Kaneshiro of Honolulu; daughter, Julienne Kaneshiro of Hilo; brother, Wayne (Mildred) Kaneshiro of Hilo; sisters, Myrna (Kenneth) Nishihara and Sandra (Wayne) Toma, both of Kaneohe, Oahu, Aileen Kaneshiro and June Bratton, both of Hilo, Daryl (Dan) Weaver of San Francisco, Arlene (Dennis) Okamura of Honolulu; two grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
